BEGINNING OF AN ERA

Back in 1995, a long-held aspiration of Bishop Hippolytus Kunnunkal, OFM, Cap., first Indian Perfect Apostolic and First Bishop of Roman Catholic Diocese of Jammu-Srinagar, came into existence. With his tenacious invitation and to God, The Apostolic Carmel Sisters of Western Province entered into a contract with Jammu-Srinagar Diocese. By God's grace, an institution only for girls opened in Kunjwani, By-Pass, Jammu. To teach Christian Values to girls through learning and other works of mercy. Sr. Ezilda A.C., then the Provincial Superior, said that the province would take over the project with good grace. The three pioneers - Sister M. Jacinthe A.C., Sister M. Janice A.C. and Sister M. Sumita A.C. - marked Apostolic Carmel presence in Jammu in 1995. Bishop Hippolytus greeted and welcomed the Sisters. Accordingly, on 7th April 1995, Bishop Hippolytus blessed the newly constructed school at Kunjwani By-Pass.

Scholastic and Co scholastic activities started in full swing. The school initially started with classes- LKG, UKG and 1. The Upward growth of the school began with the increasing number of students in each section.

Sr. Vilma Pinto came to Jammu from Goa on 25th April 1995 and took charge as the first Principal. She is an enthusiastic person and took the initiatives and saw the overall development of the girl children. Hence Spiritual, Moral, Psychological and Intellectual aspect of education is observed closely in their early stages.

In the year 1998, the middle block of school with a big stage facing the ground constructed. After a few years, in 2003, the school got Provisional recognition from the J&K Board of Education. It was a thrilling moment for the staff and parent community. The first batch of standard VIII appeared for the J&K Board Exams in February 2003 and secured 100% results.

On the 19th of April 2005, the New High School Block and the Multi-Functional Hall inaugurated and blessed by Bishop Peter Celestine OFM cap. Together with the Bishop Hippolytus KunnunKal OFM cap. who came especially from Kerala to grace the occasion in June.

The years rolled by and Carmel experienced a lot of positive changes in the school. There were functions, events, extra-curricular activities, etc. made Carmel grow more day by day. In 2017, it upgraded itself to offering four streams: Science, Commerce and Arts introduced with the fully equipped infrastructure under the able leadership of Principal Sister Maria Swati A.C.

Presently the much-awaited aspiration to affiliate the school with CBSE has come true. Hard work and dedication of the Principals past and present, staff and support from the Management Carmel, Convent is now CBSE affiliated up to the Secondary level and also accredited to International Dimensions in Schools (IDS) 2021-2023.
